Lantern type distaff in soft wood.

Traditional distaff for spinning long fibres, height adjustment, water bowl holder with bowl. Simple height adjustment with sliding collars and wedge. Working height adjustment range for seated spinning (for standing drop spindle a standard 24 mm dia broom pole replaces the top pole, not supplied - purchase locally).

Dressed by drawing fibres from a strick - see picture, the general opinion is that this method of dressing is easier and more effective than a cone distaff. We now use this method ourselves and for tuition.

The stand can be used with home made cone distaffs.

Supplied with 2 lengths of ribbon and free starter length of cut longline sliver which works incredibly well on this type of distaff. Longline sliver is an ideal choice for those who do not want to produce their own fibre but are keen to spin flax.
